Bounty Tournament
A Bounty tournament is a format in which a player gets rewarded for eliminating another player ( “claiming their bounty”). In most standard format Bounty events, your buyin is typically split 50/50 however other split variations are also available. The tournament information window will tell you exactly how the prize and bounty pools are split. In the 50/50 example, half the buyin goes to the prize pool, the other half becomes a bounty on each players head. For example, if the buyin to the tournament costs $2, then $1 goes to the prize pool and $1 as your bounty. If you eliminate a player, you instantly receive his $1 bounty! As you progress through the tournament, you will continue to claim $1 for every player you eliminate. If you reach the money positions, then you will be paid an additional cash prize from the prize pool depending on where you finished. If you go on to win the tournament, you not only claim your 1st place prize plus the bounties for the players you eliminated, you also get your own $1 bounty back!
Progressive Bounty Tournament
A Progressive Bounty tournament is similar to the standard bounty format, however it has a twist! Your buyin is split between prize and bounty pool as usual (typically 50/50 however other split variations are also available). In a progressive, your bounty is split even further with a percentage paid immediately when you eliminate another player and the remaining amount is then added to your own head making you a bigger target for your opponents. For example, if the buyin to the progressive tournament costs $2 and is split 50/50, then $1 goes to the prize pool and $1 as your bounty. If you eliminate a player then you instantly receive half his bounty of 50c. The remaining 50c now gets added to your head meaning your bounty value is now $1.50. As you progress through the tournament, you will continue to claim minimum 50c for every player you eliminate with the remainder being added to your head. You’ll start seeing opponents with big bounties on their heads (as they will have also eliminated opponents). Knock them out to claim half their fat bounty right away with the other half going on your head. Now you’re going to be on everyone’s radar as they’ll want to knock you out and claim your bounty for themselves! If you reach the money positions, then you will be paid an additional cash prize from the prize pool depending on where you finished. If you go on to win the tournament, you not only claim your 1st place prize plus the bounties for the players you eliminated, you also get your own bounty back (this could be a big amount depending on how many players you eliminated)!
Please note that the above is just an example and different split variations may be applied to the prizepool, bounty and progressive amounts. The tournament information window will tell you exactly how the prize, bounty and progressive amounts are split.
